(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - Great Midwest 2021 wrestling champions Corey Gamet and Zane Johnson went 2-0 on Saturday, as Lake Erie wrestling team (1-1 overall) split a tri-meet at home in Painesville. The Storm started the day with a 28-12 win against visiting Davenport but fell to No.7 Indianapolis 19-26.

Gamet, a redshirt freshman 125-pounder started the day with a 9-0 major decision over Manuel Leija (Davenport). Senior grappler Johnson followed up in the 133 weight class with a 5-0 decision over Daniel Poupore (Davenport) and gave Lake Erie a 7-0 lead in two matches.

After dropping the 141 and 149 weight class matches the Storm would pick up 12 big points from three consecutive falls by James Penfold (165), John Penfold (174), and Tyler Orrison (184). James Penfold and Orrison joined Gamet and Johnson going perfect on the day. 

Senior Christopher Droege earned a 6-1 decision over Crue Copper (Davenport) which gave Lake Erie their final three points over Davenport. In an extra match not included in the team points, Ryan Wehner won in sudden victory 7-5 over Asher Meekhof (Davenport)

The Storm carried the momentum into the next battle against the Greyhounds as Gamet started thing off with a 15-4 major decision over Nick Brady, followed by an 8-4 decision from Johnson over Chase Wilkerson. Brandon Tenney (149) would make up his first performance against Davenport with a 3-1 decision over Logan Bailey (Indianapolis). James Penfold added three points for the Storm in a 5-4 decision and Orrison would match his earlier performance with another fall over Gleason Mappes (Indianapolis). 

Lake Erie dropped both of their last matches at 197 and 285 giving the Greyhounds a 26-19 victory. In extra matches Jacob Johnson won by a 5-0 decision, Jordan Rodriguez won by a 9-5 decision, Thomas Potter won by a 5-3 decision, and Brylan Clause ended the day with a fall over Kyle Saez (Indianapolis).
