(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – In its penultimate dual match of the season Lake Erie fell to visiting Ashland by a score of 28-13 at the Osborne Center on Friday evening. The Storm dropped to 8-4 on the season and had their four-match winning streak from the G-MAC Championship stopped while the Eagles improved to 6-2.
The Green and White took the early advantage as the Brothers Glogouski took care of business at 125 and 133. Blake, ranked No. 4 in the nation at 125, went down early to the Eagles' Dan Morell after a takedown, but rebounded nicely with an escape to close out the first period 2-1. That momentum kept rolling en route to a 6-2 decision.
Forrest Glogouski's bout at 133 was a bit more of a slower paced event with no score after the first period. The bulk of the scoring took place in the third as he was able to score a flurry of points with a takedown and a four-point near fall in the waning seconds. Riding time allowed the major decision to be scored 9-0.
From there Ashland answered with two key pin falls at 141 and 149. It set the team score at 12-7, and the Eagles were able hold on the rest of the way.
Despite that, the Storm were still able to pull out a pair of wins. Nick Boggs, ranked No. 8 at 157, continued his incredible season with a 5-2 decision. It took an escape in the late part of the third before the main separation took place in the third overtime thanks to an escape and a takedown.
Chris Droege added the final team points on a 7-1 decision. Four of those came on a near fall in the second. Two more were added on a takedown in the third.
Lake Erie will close the home season with the main event of Dinner and a Show on Senior Night this Wednesday. The Storm will host Urbana for the festivities on Valentine's Day Eve with a 7 p.m. start.
