Wrestling Takes Down No. 10 West Liberty at Storm Duals

PAINESVILLE, Ohio

The Lake Erie College Storm wrestling team hosted the Storm Duals this afternoon, competing against Rochester, West Liberty, and Mercyhurst.

They dominated the first dual against Rochester with a final team score of 47-3. Andrew Lieb (141), James Penfold (165), Chris Droege (197), and Devin Uzelac (285) earned falls. John Siemasz (149) and Paul Scaramuzzino (184) both earned tech falls, while Jacob Potok (157) earned a major decision. Blake Glogouski (133) earned a 5-4 decision win with riding time. The only loss of the dual against Rochester was a 3-1 decision dropped by John Penfold.

The Storm also won against no. 10 ranked West Liberty with a final score of 22-21. Blake Glogouski earned his second win at 133 with a fall, and James Penfold earned his second fall of the day. John Siemasz earned a 10-2 major decision.

Head coach Jeff Breese was pleased with his team's performance against West Liberty. "It's commonplace for us now to get at least a top 10 win a year. I'm excited. I'll be excited when I call and talk to recruits tonight and tell them we beat a top 10 team, but we expect to beat a top 10 team," said Head Coach Jeff Breese.

"Our program expects to be top 10 in the country athletically and academically every year, so if we're throwing a parade for beating a team that's ranked 10th, I don't really think that's the right mindset. It was a good win. I was excited for the guys, and I feel like we wrestled fairly well. They had guys out. We had guys out. You know, it's that time of the season. But overall, it's something to build with. For the number of freshmen that we have, for them to know that we can compete at that level as a team, I think it's important for those individuals to know that now. As a coaching staff, that's just kind of what we expect."

The day was not perfect, though. The Storm lost their last match of the day against Mercyhurst, which just fell out of the national rankings last week, with a final score of 31-10. Andrew Lieb earned a 10-2 major decision, while Brandon Tenney and Jacob Johnson both won by decisions.
