(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Monday's dual home opener was an exciting one as Lake Erie was narrowly edged by No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit 26-24 in mat action at the Osborne Center. The loss drops the Storm to 4-2 on the season, while the Cardinals won their fifth-straight and improved to 13-3 on the year.
In the 10 bouts, the Storm split down the middle with the Cardinals 5-5. Lake Erie's points came at 133, 157, 165, 197, and 285.
After forfeiting the 125 bout, Forrest Glogouski put the Green and White on the board and evened the match with a pin fall over Alex Godinez at the 3:52 mark. Jesuit took the next two before Nick Boggs added three points on an 11-6 decision over Dylan Taylor. Sean O'Hearon then tied the match once again with a pin fall over Brice Harkness
The Cardinals took the next two before Chris Droege narrowly clipped Chase Logan 2-1, but the three-point result sealed the win for the visitors despite Evan Loughman securing added to his national leading pin fall count with a 54-second winner over Devan Uzelak.
The Storm grapplers won't have much time off as they are back in action Friday against another highly ranked opponent in Notre Dame. The Falcons will enter as the No. 3 team in the country and will visit Osborne for a 7 p.m. start.
