(KENT, Ohio) – Nationally ranked No. 14 Lake Erie opened the season with three impressive wins over Otterbein, Cowley, and Lindsey Wilson at the Kent State Duals on Friday. The Storm cruised through all three duals by scores of 34-14, 35-3, and 29-11, respectively.

Only one of the Storm's three nationally ranked grapplers were in competition as Nick Boggs, No. 4 nationally in the 157-lbs. weight class, took to the matt in all three duals. He easily took care of business in the first two bouts with a fall at 5:43 in the opening match against Michael Duzzny for six points. Boggs added four more in a 9-1 major decision over Jake Patterson. The final contest Joe Koontz proved more difficult, but the senior from Concord, Ohio, was still able to get his hand raised in a 5-2 decision.

Sean O'Hearon also had an excellent day as he too went 3-0 with three bonus-point victories. His day started with an injury default win en route to a technical fall. He followed with five more points for the team in each of the next two matches. Both came by tech falls with a 22-7 win over Gabriel Capp and a 22-4 win over Bryce Hoffman. Overall he scored 16 of 18 possible points for the Storm.

Others who went unbeaten in all three contests on the day included Zane Johnson and John Siemasz. Johnson wrestled at 133 and took down Ryan Jakubiak by major decision 13-2 in the opening bout. He followed up with a 10-4 decision over Brandon Becker and closed the day with a narrow 3-2 victory over Brady Moser.

At 149, Siemasz received a forfeit win to open, defeated Ernest Caldwell by a 16-0 tech fall, and ended the day with a 5-1 decision over Austin Ramsey.

The Storm will be back in battle as they head south once again to compete in the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday.
