Parrigan, First Doubles Team Pick Up Victories but Storm Falls at Malone

CANTON, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College women's tennis team got a thrilling three-set victory from senior Jordyn Parrigan (Shelby, Ohio/Shelby) and also earned a close victory at first doubles, but it wouldn't be enough to lift the visiting Storm by host Malone University as the Pioneers picked up a 7-2 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win Saturday afternoon (Sept. 28).

Sophomore Cristina Suarez (Puebla, Mexico/Tecnologico de Monterrey) and junior Erika Ginn (Ashtabula, Ohio/Lakeside) got the Storm (0-8, 0-8 GLIAC) on the board for the first time this season with a 9-7 victory at first doubles over Asia Harris and Kalwy Kahoun  in the first contest of the day. But Malone (2-8, 1-7 GLIAC) came back to take the final two doubles matches to go up 2-1.

First of the six singles matches were straight set wins for the Pioneer, with Malone yielding just five points.  The third singles match was headed that way as well, as Janelle Linder won the fisrt set 6-1. But Parrigan rallied to win the final two sets 7-5, 7-6, to give the Storm their first singles victory of the season.

Lake Erie is scheduled to play a nonconference match at Daemen College Sunday, Sept. 29.
