Goldberg Strong in Debut, But Storm Men Fall at Edinboro

EDINBORO, PA. – Freshman Liam Goldberg (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Haileybury College) earned victories at both first singles and first doubles, but those were the only two wins recorded by the Lake Erie College men's tennis team in its fall season opener Thursday (Sept. 20), resulting in a 7-2 loss at Edinboro University.

Goldberg picked up a 6-0, 7-6 win over Kevin Caldwell in his first collegiate singles match.  He teamed with senior Cory Meek (Madison, Ohio/Madison/Notre Dame) for a 9-7 win at first doubles over Amir Talab and Brandon Romain for the Storm (0-1).

At third doubles, senior Jacob Marsinick (Vermilion, Ohio/St. Mary Central Catholic) and sophomore Nick Cozad (Colliers, W. Va./Brooke) put up quite the fight before falling to Nathan Hansen and Kody Duncan, 8-6.

The remaining five singles matches were all won by the Fighting Scots (1-0) in straight sets.

The Storm men return to action on Sunday, Sept. 30, when they host Cedarville University at the Mentor Heisley Racquet Club.
