Women's Tennis Season Opens With Home Loss to Findlay

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Despite close calls at first doubles and fourth singles, the Lake Erie College women's tennis team was kept off the scoreboard in a season-opening loss to the University of Findlay on Friday (Sept. 2) at the Mentor Heisley Racquet Club.

The visiting Oilers (1-0, 1-0 GLIAC) won all four contested singles matches and both played doubles contests, though not all were easy.

Sophomore Jordyn Parrigan (Shelby, Ohio/Shelby) and junior Emily Rose-Gray (Marine City, Mich./Marine City) came up just short at first doubles, falling to Holly Vietke and Allison James9-7 in a spirited opening match.

The match of the day was at fourth singles, which went to a third set tiebreak.  Storm (0-1, 0-1 GLIAC) sophomore Brittany Kelly (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva), playing in her first collegiate match, rebounded from a dropped first set to take the second against James.  The third set went back-and-forth before James eventually pulled out the win 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 (TB).

Findlay won two singles matches and one doubles match by forfeit.

Lake Erie's busy opening weekend continues on Saturday, Sept. 3, with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest against Wayne State University at 9 a.m. at the Mentor Heisley Club.
