Kelly Picks Up First Win in Storm's Loss at Hillsdale

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Sophomore Brittany Kelly (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) won her first career match Sunday (Sept. 11) with a convincing straight sets win at fourth singles, but it was the only win for the Lake Erie College women's tennis team in an 8-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) loss at Hillsdale College.

Kelly defeated Abby Sjoerdsma 6-1 and 6-3 to pick up the Storm's first individual match victory and her first with the program.  She did not play tennis as a freshman.  Hillsdale (2-4, 1-2 GLIAC) won the other three contested singles matches in straight sets.

Sophomore Jordyn Parrigan (Shelby, Ohio/Shelby) and junior Emily Rose-Gray (Marine City, Mich./Marine City) battled Sjoerdsma and Ellie Voci in a thrilling match at second doubles to start the day, but ultimately came up just short in a 9-7 setback.

Lake Erie (0-6, 0-6 GLIAC) is next in action Sept. 16-18 at the Division II Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Tournament at the University of Indianapolis.
