PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Despite four goals from its leading
scorer in a match-up of first-year programs, the Lake Erie College
men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 East Coast Conference
decision to host Mercy College in its penultimate game of the
season on Saturday afternoon (May 8) in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
Freshman Keegan Bal (Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial
Secondary) scored four times, breaking out of a three-game
slump in which he scored just one time, but it wasn't enough
to prevent the Storm (3-10, 1-8 ECC) from suffering its sixth
straight loss.
Mercy jumped out to a 4-0 lead and led 6-2 at halftime.
Bal scored twice early in the third quarter to cut the deficit to
just 7-4, but the Mavericks scored three straight to push it to a
six-goal advantage.
It was 12-5 before the Storm got goals from sophomore
John Borowy (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep),
Andrew Donatelli (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) and
Matthew Curcio (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township)
to close the gap to 12-8 with 2:39 left.
But John Fitzpatrick scored to break the Storm's
momentum and seal the win.
Frank Henenlotter led Mercy (5-10, 3-7 ECC) with four goals and
two assists. Mike Marzocca and Sean Wallin each added three
goals. Wallin also had three assists.
The Storm closes out the season on Sunday, May 9, at
second-ranked C.W. Post.
