PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Sophomore Rachel Smallwood
(Carlisle, Ohio/Carlisle) picked up her first career
victory, but that was the lone highlight for the Lake Erie College
women's tennis team as it opened the spring portion of its schedule
with an 8-1 loss to the University of Findlay on Sunday (Feb. 21)
at the Mentor Heisley Racquet and Fitness Club.
Smallwood defeated Kari Rudduck at number four singles, 7-6,
6-2. The Oilers (3-13) swept the other singles matches, all in
straight sets, and took two by default.
Findlay won both contested doubles matches, but the Storm
(0-5) put up a fight in both. Smallwood and freshman
Emily Rose-Gray (Marine City, Mich./Marine City)
lost to Haley Dudon and Kelsey Yoder 8-5 at first
doubles. Findlay's Holly Vietzke and Rudduck took out senior
Hillary Marshall (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Phelps-Clifton
Springs) and freshman Cassie Rideout (Perry,
Ohio/Perry) in second doubles, 8-3.
The Storm returns to the court on Wednesday, March 24 at Ohio
Northern University.
