EDINBORO, Pennsylvania -- The Lake Erie men's and women's cross country teams started their season on Saturday, September 8 competing in the Doug Watts Open.
As a team, the women finished fifth out of six teams, while the men finished fifth out of seven.
On the women's side, school record holder in the 5k, Raena Willett, finished third overall with a time of 18:41.4. She was followed by Julia Laudato (17th, 20:07.8), Lanie Bower (41st, 22:21.0), Ayleen Villacres (47th, 23:06.8), Kaleigh Williams (50th, 23:27.2), and Anna Vrabel (53rd, 26:07.3).
For the men, Bryce Michaelis led the team with a 19th-place finish and a time of 21:03.7, marking his new personal best in the 6k. Andrew Polcik (27th, 21:44.1), David Zaumeyer (32nd, 21:55.6), Mason Brewer (34th, 21:56.8), Evan Laukonis (37th, 22:19.7), and Joshua Forsythe (56th, 27:59.4) rounded out the team for the men.
The Storm will next compete in the All-Ohio Intercollegiate XC Challenge on Friday, September 20th, in Cedarville, Ohio.
