Willett Leads Storm With Second Team All-G-MAC Selection

HILLSDALE, Michigan -- The Lake Erie men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the regular season on Saturday in the conference championship. The men's team would place ninth out of 11 competing teams, while the women's team took 11th of 12.

Looking at the men's side, freshman Kristian Green led the team with a 47th place finish, clocking in at 26:28.4. Close behind was Harry Ross-Hughes who set a personal best 8k time at 26:43.2, good for 59th place and 10 seconds shaved off his previous record. Following them were Scott Temple (87th, 27:22.0), Bryce Michaelis (116th, 28:18.3), David Zaumeyer (118th, 28:20.8), Andrew Polcik (124th, 28:40.6), Mason Brewer (139th, 29:37.4), and Joshua Forsythe (155th, 35:39.2). For Zaumeyer, the freshman improved his 8k time in all four chances this year, this time seeing a 38 second improvement in the race.

Moving to the women, Raena Willett unsurprisingly paced all Storm runners in the 6k, placing 15th overall, coming in with a time of 22:20.3. This finish would earn her a Second Team All-G-MAC selection, the second of her career. Crossing the line next for Lake Erie was Julia Laudato (55th, 23:55.0), Lanie Bower (97th, 25:59.9), Talia Mauro (105th, 26:22.4), Kaleigh Williams (111th, 26:43.2), and Ayleen Villacres (120th, 27:33.2).

There were many highlights this season, with countless personal records shattered and top individual finishers. Lake Erie boasted eight top-20 individual finishers in meets this season, including a top-10 finish and three top-3 placements.

Although the regular season has come to a close, the Storm still have the option to send runners to the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Saturday, November 9th. For the past three season, Raena Willett and Julia Laudato have represented the Storm in Regionals, last year taking 59th and 119th respectively in the women's 6k.
