EDINBORO, Pennsylvania -- The Lake Erie men's and women's cross country teams competed on Friday in the Fighting Scots Invite, hosted by Edinboro University. Both teams had their best finishes of the season, with the men coming in third and the women finishing fourth.
On the men's side, freshman
Kristian Green continues to shave down on his 8k time, crossing the line at 25:41.9, good for third place and a blistering 5:10.2 average mile pace. Storm runners impressively would snatch two more top-20 finishes, as
Andrew Polcik (16th) and
Harry Ross-Hughes (17th) respectively put up times of 27:18.2 and 27:23.8. For Polcik, the junior dropped 13 seconds from his personal best in the race. Freshman
Scott Temple would be next to the line for the Storm (21st, 27:30.8), followed by
Bryce Michaelis (34th, 28:20.6),
David Zaumeyer (43rd, 28:58.0),
Mason Brewer (51st, 29:15.8), and Joshua Forsythe (68th, 36:36.2). Zaumeyer and Brewer, both freshman, continue to improve and slash time off of their 8k PR in their young collegiate careers.
Switching to the women's team we find two top-10 finishers in the 6k, and they're our typical subjects: seniors
Raena Willett and
Julia Laudato. Willett crossed the line in a time of 23:24.1, taking 3rd in the event, while Laudato came in shortly after at 23:58.1, good for 9th. Next to finish for Lake Erie was sophomore
Talia Mauro (37th, 26:14.4), followed by
Lanie Bower (40th, 26:37.6),
Kaleigh Williams (47th, 27:21.7), and
Ayleen Villacres (53rd, 28:01.7).
The teams will next race in the G-MAC Championship on Saturday, October 26th in Hillsdale, Michigan.
