The Lake Erie College men placed 11th out of 12 teams while the women place 13th out of 14th squads as the Storm competed for the first time ever in the GLIAC Championship hosted by Hillsdale University, in Hillsdale Mich. Sophomore Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) was the team's top finisher in 21st place with a time of 26:03.1 which shattered his previous school record of 26:35 for an 8K event set earlier this season.
Freshman Nick Chlad (Eastlake, Ohio/North) was the next runner for the Storm men in 59th place with a time of 27:03.8 while Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) also broke the 30-minute mark in 27:41.9, good for 80th. Lake Erie's men ran the 8K in an average time of 28:36.60.
Others finishes for the men were 105th for sophomore David Gobrogge (Akron, Ohio/Green) in 30:02.1, 111th for sophomore Devin O'Neill (Concord, Ohio/Mentor) in 32:12.1 and 112th for junior Zach Adams (Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton) in 32:50.6.
On the women's side, the top finishers were junior Allison Wright (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and sophomore Samantha Smith (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) who finished back-to-back in 106th and 107th positions with times of 25:31.2 and 26:13.5. Lake Erie's six females averaged a time of 26:27.58 as they were tightly packed together in the 6K race.
Other finishes were 110th for sophomore Leah Jones (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) in 26:35.8, 111th for freshman Shanita Fluker (Flint, Mich./Flint Southwestern) in 26:44.2, 114th for junior Kyle Herron (Perry, Ohio/Perry)in 27:13.2 and 125th for senior Rachel Hanzak (Cedar Grove, N.C./Orange) in 30:56.8
The Storm is off next weekend before they return to action on Saturday, November 20 for the big NCAA Regional race in Louisville, Ky.
