The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its 2018 volleyball season awards today and three Lake Erie players have earned accolades. Senior outside hitter Crystal Kedroske and junior libero Morgan Briggs were selected to the All-Conference First Team, while outside hitter Maria Blatnik was named Freshman of the Year.
A battle-tested Lake Erie volleyball team will host its first playoff game in its Division II era tomorrow night as it welcomes Tiffin for the G-MAC Quarterfinals. The Storm (22-9, 13-6) earned the right to host by claiming the No. 2 seed in the East Division. The Dragons (21-10, 15-4) enter as the No. 3 seed from the West Division.
After two incredible five-set wins over teams tied for first place in the East Division, Lake Erie’s Alexis Thomas has been named the G-MAC’s Player of the Week. Thomas (Sr., 5-6, Cincinnati, Ohio/Fairfield) put together her best two-match stretch of the season to keep the Storm alive for the divisional crown en route to another 20-win season.
It would be hard to script a better weekend for the Lake Erie volleyball team as it defeated both teams tied for first place in the East Division on consecutive days. This time it came against Malone by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-12, 17-15.
Lake Erie kept its hopes of repeating as G-MAC East Division Champion alive with a thrilling five-set victory over current first place team Walsh at the Cecchini Center Friday night. The Storm (19-9, 10-6) entered the day in third place behind the Cavaliers (15-12, 11-4) and Malone (15-12, 11-4) who fell to Ursuline tonight as well.
