NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Lake Erie College volleyball team was in action today (Sept. 29) as they defeated Walsh in four sets, 3-1. With the win the Storm improves to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The first set was a hard fought battle as the set was tied on nine different occasions. Late in the first set Lake Erie rattled off three straight points to take the first set, 25-22.
The second set started off close before the Cavaliers went on a 5-0 run and took a 14-9 advantage. The Storm continued to battle, but was unable to overcome the deficit and fell 26-24 in the second set.
The Storm answered back in the third set when they went on a 10-4 run to take a commanding, 17-9 advantage. Lake Erie continued their strong play and won the third set, 25-15.
The Storm opened the fourth set with a quick 4-0 run. Later in the set Lake Erie put the match away with a 6-0 run to take a 17-6 lead. The Storm's lead was insurmountable as they won the fourth and final set, 25-16.
Lake Erie was led by Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) on offense as she had match high 20 kills as well as five total blocks in the game. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) pitched in with 13 kills and a block on the night. Defensively the Storm was led by Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) as she had a game high 20 digs in the match. Peiffer added to her strong offensive game with 15 digs on the night for the Storm.
Lake Erie will return to the gym tomorrow (Sept. 30) when they travel to take on Malone with the match set to start at 2 p.m.
