PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College volleyball team will play in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament this weekend, hosted by the #1 seed, Ferris State University.
The #7 seed Lake Erie will take on #3 seed Ashland University at 5:30 PM, the second game of a semifinal doubleheader.
Storm Report: Lake Erie clinched a spot in the semis with their second win over the University of Findlay this season on Wednesday (Nov. 16) night. The Storm defeated the Oilers in five sets, 3-2 (25-23, 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-11). Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) and Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) had 18 kills each. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) led the defense with 18 digs. For the regular season, the Storm finished with an 18-15 overall record and a 9-7 GLIAC record.
Series History: The Storm and the Eagles faced off on the road two weeks ago with the Eagles winning 3-0. Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) led the Storm with 11 kills while Fletcher had ten digs. In the series history, Ashland has won 12 of the 13 matchups to date.
Opposition Position: Ashland defeated #6 Wayne State 3-2 (25-11, 25-19, 19-25, 18-25, 15-11) in the GLIAC first round to advance. In the regular season, Ashland was 22-9 overall and 12-5 in the GLIAC.
GLIAC Semifinal: In the other GLIAC Semifinal, #1 Ferris State hosts #4 Saginaw Valley. The winner of each semifinal will meet in the GLIAC Championship on Sunday (Nov. 20) at 3:00 PM.
