AMHERST, New York- The Lake Erie College volleyball team made two notches in the win column with a two wins on the first day of the Daeman College/Hyatt Place Volleyball Classic on Friday (Sept. 9). The Storm swept Roberts Wesleyan in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) and defeated the host, Daeman College in four sets (22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-19). Lake Erie improved to 2-3 on the year with the pair of wins.
In the first match, the Storm's offense was led by Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt), who had ten kills. Peiffer finished with five digs in the match as well. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) led the Storm in hitting percentage for the match at .368. She had eight kills, two aces and five digs. Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) and Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) combined for 23 digs in the match. Thomas also made 16 assists and four service aces against Roberts Wesleyan.
In the nightcap, the Storm rallied from one set down to take the match in four sets. Peiffer again led the Storm with ten kills and she fell one dig shy of a double-double. Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) finished with eight kills. Fletcher led all players with 22 digs overall. Thomas and Courtney Stedman (Mount Prospect, Ill. / Hersey) finished with 21 and 11 assists, respectively.
The Storm will have an off day on Saturday (Sept. 10) before returning to action Sunday (Sept. 11) with matches against Assumption and Saint Rose.
