(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Lake Erie women's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 defeat of Tiffin at Paradiso Fields on Sunday afternoon. The Storm improved to 6-7-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the conference, while the Dragons dropped to 1-12-1 and 1-8-1 in the same fields.
An early goal in the seventh minute made the difference as Haley Scherer (So., Petrolia, Pennsylvania) found the back of the net once again thanks to an assist from Peyton Frankovich (Sr., Dover, Ohio). The score came just 6:43 in the contests and the Green and White made it hold up the rest of the way.
It was Scherer's team-leading fifth goal of the season while Frankovich tallied her fifth helper of the year.
It was an excellence game defensively as well for Megan Biddell who got back into the win column with her fifth shutout of the season. She made four saves on the day.
Overall Tiffin outshot Lake Erie 20-17 with a heavy barrage of 12 shots coming in the second half.
"This team has shown great resilience throught this season. They have improved steadily and that was very apparent this weekend in our two games," said Head Coach Reni Lawrence. "A great team is a team that can learn from their losses as well as their wins. We are looking forward to our final two games including next Saturday which is our senior day."
The Storm now sit right behind Ursuline for the eighth and final playoff spot with two games to play. They'll get their chance at the Arrows in the regular season finale, but first they'll host Alderson Broaddus on Senior Night this Saturday.
Kickoff with the Battlers is currently set for 8 p.m. Coverage will be available on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
