Early Goals By Cedarville Sting Storm

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Lake Erie dropped a Great Midwest contest to visiting Cedarville by a score of 3-1 at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening. The Storm dropped to .500 on the season at 5-5-2 overall and are 2-5-1 in the conference. The Yellow Jackets improved to 6-5 overall and 5-2 in the G-MAC.

It was the visitors that struck first as Emma Conway scored on a header off a corner kick by Aleah Martone in the 13th minute. Conway wasn't finished as she quickly made it 2-0 less than a minute later on a long kick that was perfectly placed in the upper right 90.

The Storm didn't go down quietly, however, as they stole some momentum back just before the half. As the clock was counting down the final seconds, Mariah Fedewa (Lansing, Michigan) was able to send a cross from the left side and found Carley Kandel (Jeromesville, Ohio) waiting on the far post. Kandel was able to get a soft touch on the ball to direct it just inside the post for her third goal of the season.

Lake Erie battled throughout the game but saw Cedarville provide a final blow in the 86th minute with an insurance goal by Olivia Hoffman on an assist from Anna Carrico.

Cedarville outshot the Green and White 18-5 overall, but the majority of that came in the first half where the visitors were able to get 13 shots off. Megan Biddell (Mentor, Ohio) saw 10 of those on target and made the save on seven of them.

The Storm won't have much time to rest as they just have one day off until their next game on Saturday. It will be the penultimate home game of the season as Lake Erie welcomes Ohio Dominican with a 2 p.m. kickoff. Coverage will be available on the Great Midwest Digital Network. Lake Erie students, staff, and faculty will receive free admission with their Storm ID card.
