(PORTSMOUTH, Ohio) – Another clean sheet kept Lake Erie unbeaten on the season as the Green and White took down hosting Shawnee State 2-0 on Tuesday evening. The Storm (3-0-2) are unbeaten through the first five games for the first time in the Division II era with the win against the Bears (4-4).
Meagan Kennedy entered the game just before the opening third was over and put the Storm on the board for the first time just over 10 minutes later in the 40th minute. Bailey Pattinson assisted on the play after she entered in the 22nd minute. It was both players' first points of the season.
Pattinson wasn't done, however, as she found the back of the net herself with an insurance goal in the 86th minute. Peyton Frankovich was credited with the helper, her second of the season.
"We are proud of the team and what we have accomplished thus far this season. Many players stepped up today and it showed out on the field," said Head Coach Rene Lawrence. "Freshman Meagan Kennedy and freshman Bailey Pattinson both scored their first collegiate goals. Now we must refocus and start preparing for a tough game on Friday against Findlay."
Overall the Storm inundated the Bears in the shot count 17-6. The offense combined with a suffocating defense severely limited Shawnee State's opportunities on the attack. When the Bears did get any shots off, goalkeeper Megan Biddell made the save on all three takes on target for her fourth shutout of the season.
The last time Lake Erie started the season this well came in 2016 when the Storm went 4-0 to open the year outscoring the opposition 21-2.
With non-conference play now completed. the Storm now set their sight back on G-MAC competition which resumes Friday with a home contest against Findlay. Kickoff with the Oilers is set for 1 p.m. at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. Admission is $5 with Lake Erie students, staff and faculty allowed in free with their LEC Storm ID card.
