(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Tomorrow will be the most important day of the season for both the men's and women's soccer programs at Lake Erie College. It's the final game of the regular season, and while the playoffs might not officially start until this Saturday, they will pseudo-start tomorrow for both teams.
For the women, they will host nearby rival Ursuline for the eighth and final playoff spot. Both teams have identical records of 5-9-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the conference. Each team has 13 points and another three points would guarantee a ticket to the dance.
Both teams met earlier this month down in Pepper Pike earlier this month with the Storm coming from behind to win 2-1. Ursuline scored just 90 seconds in before Carley Kandel scored an equalizer nine minutes later. Maddie Smith was credited with the game-winner thanks to a misplayed ball by the Arrows.
Both teams have seen success defensively this season with each squad recording three shutouts. Lake Erie is third in the G-MAC with 110 saves on the season, while Ursuline ranks just behind them in fifth with 94. Rachel Weber has played the majority of the season between the pipes and is second in the G-MAC with 7.11 saves per game. The Arrows' Gina Cerny is also high on that list and ranks sixth with 6.27 a contest.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Jack Britt Memorial Stadium. The winner will advance to take on Ohio Valley, Trevecca Nazarene, or Walsh.
