AMHERST, NY – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was in action today as they were defeated by Daemen College, 2-1 in overtime.
The team's battled in the first half but neither team was able to break the scoreless drought. The Storm was out shot in the first half as the shot total was 9-6 in favor of the Wildcats. Anne-Kristin Frank (Koeln, Germany / St. Dominikus Karlsruhe) led the charge for the Storm as she had a shot on goal. Goalie Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio / Lake Catholic) kept Lake Erie level as she turned away four Wildcat shots in the first half.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the second half at the 65 minute mark off of a free kick from the top of the 18 yard box. The Storm answered the Daemen goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game as Carley Kandel (Jeromesville, Ohio / Northwestern) scored off of an assist by Deanna Hill (Troy, Mich. / Avondale) to tie the game at 1-1. The teams finished the 90 minutes deadlocked at 1-1.
In the first overtime period Daemen scored the golden goal to win the game, 2-1.
Brannon was in net for the Storm as she faced 21 shots, 14of which were on goal, and made 12 saves.
Lake Erie will be back in action Monday (Sept. 11) when they host Carlow with the game set to start at 7 p.m.
