PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team snapped a two game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Ferris State University Bulldogs on Friday (Oct. 7) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
Lake Erie improved to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the GLIAC. Ferris State dropped to 3-6-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference matchups.
In the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Each team took three shots in the first half.
Just three and a half minutes into the second half, the Storm broke the scoreless tie. Kynslie Murphy (Parma, Ohio / Valley Forge) placed a perfect cross to the opposite side of the field. Rebecca Cornell (Ashland, Ohio / Ashland) placed the cross past the keeper with a header from the right side of the box.
In the 76th minute, Lake Erie added an insurance goal off of a corner kick. Elizabeth Roesch (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) lofted a corner kick into the box, where Murphy planted it into the back of the net.
Ten minutes later, Ferris State got on the scoreboard with a goal late in the game. Carley Dubbert was able to clean up a scrum in the box with a shot that rattled between the top crossbar and the ground.
Both teams ended with five shots in the second half, totaling eight shots each in the game.
Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio / Lake Catholic) made four saves in the game with one goal allowed.
The Storm will host #1 Grand Valley State at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 9). Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
