PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team returns home to Painesville for a four game home stand, including two GLIAC opponents this weekend. The Storm will host Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 7) and #1 Grand Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 9).
Storm Report: Lake Erie holds a 6-4 overall record for the 2016 season and a 1-3 GLIAC record. In Michigan last weekend, Lake Erie dropped two matchups to Saginaw Valley and Northwood by final scores of 2-0 and 3-0, respectively.
GLIAC Honorable Mention: The Storm had two players named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention list for the week. On offense, Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio/ Pickerington Central) was named Offensive Honorable Mention as she scored one goal on five shots for the week. On defense, Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio/Lake Catholic) was named as she made 20 saves with five goals allowed in three games.
Series History: In six matchups each with the Bulldogs and the Lakers, the Storm have never beaten either team. Last year, the Storm fell to Ferris State 3-0 and 7-0 to Grand Valley State.
Opposition Position: Ferris State comes to Painesville with a 3-5-2 overall record and a 1-1-2 record in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs defeated Tiffin 1-0 in their last game. Grand Valley State is ranked #1 in the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Coaches' Poll. The Lakers are 9-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the GLIAC entering play Wednesday (Oct. 5). Grand Valley will face Florida Tech and Walsh prior to playing the Storm.
Storm Forecast: Lake Erie will wrap up the home stand with two home matches against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan next weekend.
