PAINESVILLE, Ohio- After a non-conference win, the Lake Erie College women's soccer team jumps back into the GLIAC schedule with a trip to Michigan this weekend for a pair of contests. The Storm will take on Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Sept. 30) and Northwood on Sunday (Oct. 2).
Storm Report: Lake Erie is currently 6-2 overall for the year with a 1-1 GLIAC record after two straight wins. The Storm completed the nonconference schedule for the season with a 1-0 win over the Ursuline Arrows on Tuesday (Sept. 27) at Slattery Field. Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) scored the only goal of the game in the first half, her fifth goal of the year.
GLIAC Honorable Mention: Auwah and Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio / Lake Catholic) were both named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention list for offense and defense, respectively. Awuah scored the game-winning goal in the Storm's 2-1 win over Tiffin last week. On defense, Brannon made 22 saves and allowed three goals for the Green and White.
Series History: Since Lake Erie joined the GLIAC in 2010, the Storm have met the Cardinals and the Timberwolves in six matchups. The Storm have won two of six matchups with Saginaw Valley, including a 2-1 win last season. Northwood holds a 5-1 advantage over the Storm in the series, taking the matchup last year 2-0.
Opposition Position: Saginaw Valley enters the weekend with a 6-2-1 overall record and a 0-1-1 GLIAC record after the Cardinals tied with Ohio Dominican 1-1. Northwood is coming off of a 2-0 win over Findlay, giving them a 4-3 record. The Timberwolves have a 1-1 GLIAC record as they host Walsh on Friday (Sept. 30).
Storm Forecast: The Storm will return home next week to kick off a four game homestand with game against Ferris State and Grand Valley State.
