ASHLAND, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was defeated today by Ashland University, 4-3. With the loss the Storm falls to 2-10-2 overall and 1-7-2 in the conference and with the win the Eagles improve to 11-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
Ashland scored first when Morgan Bittengle found the back of the net off of an assist by Deijah Swihart, to make the score 1-0 in favor of Ashland. The Storm responded when Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) scored off of an assist by Ashley Pryce (Stow, Ohio / Stow Munroe Falls) to tie the game at one goal apiece.
The Eagles regained the lead in the second half when Carson Janssen scored an unassisted goal, to make the score 2-1 in favor of Ashland. Less than a minute later the Lake Erie tied the game at 2-2, when Marlena Lesniowski (London, Ontario / Catholic Central High) scored an unassisted goal. Awuah scored her second goal of the game off of a penalty kick, to give the Storm a 3-2 advantage. Leanne Prandi tied the game for the Eagles at three goals apiece off of a cross by Bittengle. Less than a minute later the Eagles added another goal when Bittengle scored an unassisted goal, to make the score 4-3 in favor of Ashland. Ashland held on to win the game 4-3.
Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio / Lake Catholic) was in net for the Storm, she faced 25 shots, 14 of which were on goal, and made 10 saves.
Lake Erie will be back in in action Tuesday (October 20th) when they travel to take on Ursuline at 3:30 P.M.
