PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was victorious today (October 21st) over Mercyhurst University, 2-1. With the win the Storm improve to 6-7-1 overall and with the loss the Lakers fall to 4-10-1 overall.
The scoring was opened in the last minute of the first half when forward Lauren Testa found the back of the net off of an assist from Kristina Roberti to give the Lakers a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half the Storm scored the equalizer off of a penalty kick taken by sophomore forward Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) to make the score 1-1.
The Storm took the lead with under five minutes to play when Awuah scored her second penalty kick of the match to give her team a 2-1 advantage.
In net for Lake Erie College was senior Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich. / Oxford) she faced 14 shots, seven of which were on goal, made six saves, and allowed one goal.
The Storm will be back in action when they host Ashland University at 7 P.M. on Friday (October 24th) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
