MIDLAND, Mich.- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team was victorious today (October 3rd) over Northwood University, 3-2. With the win the Storm improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference, and the Timberwolves fall to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Marlena Lesniowski (London, Ontario / Catholic Central High) opened the scoring for the Storm in the 14th minute on an unassisted goal giving the Storm a 1-0 advantage.
Lake Erie College widened the margin when sophomore defender Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio/ Mentor) headed a ball off of a corner kick taken by sophomore Elizabeth Roesch (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) to give Lake Erie a 2-0 lead.
The Storm continued to dominate the game in the second half when senior midfielder Grace Ferut found the back off the net off of an assist by Roesch, making the score 3-0.
Northwood cut into the lead in the 85th minute when Carly Whitson made the score, 3-1 in favor of the Storm. Three minutes later Whitson scored for Northwood on an assist from Jessica Flores, making the score 3-2 in favor of Lake Erie College.
Sophomore Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington Central) was in goal for the Storm, she faced nine shots, seven of which were on goal, made five saves, and allowed two goals.
The Storm will be back in action when they travel to Michigan to take on Saginaw Valley on Sunday (October 5th ) at 12 P.M.
