PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team picked up their second-straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory Sunday (Sept. 29), defeating Walsh University, 2-0 at home.
Picking up where she left off last game, Elizabeth Awuah (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) scored the first goal of the game, burying a pass from Bethany Haramis (Norton, Ohio/Norton) inside the goal post in the 10th minute, giving the Storm (3-5, 2-2 GLIAC) a 1-0 advantage going into the second-half.
The Walsh (3-4-1, 0-3 GLIAC) offense picked up the pace in the second-half, pressuring the Storm's defense, outshooting Lake Erie 12-5. However, the Storm defense led by goalkeeper Sarah Stroope (Oxford, Mich./Oxford) did not budge. Alexandria Gagne (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) added a late goal on a cross from Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) to seal the victory for the Storm.
Stroope ended the game with five saves for the clean sheet, the first for the Storm this season.
The Storm are off until next Sunday (Oct. 6), hosting Seton Hill University in a nonconference match.
