PAINESVILLE, Ohio—The Lake Erie College women's soccer opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference portion of their schedule Friday (Sept. 14), falling to foe Michigan Technological University, 2-1 in overtime, at the Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half.  The Storm had a couple chances to get on the scoreboard early, but was unable to capitalize on the opportunities.  The Huskies had their own chances to score but junior goalkeeper Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) was able to shut them out, recording six saves in the half.

The Storm scored the first goal of the game early in the second half, when senior Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) found the back corner of net in the 55th minute.  The Huskies answered back with a goal of their own 10 minutes later off the foot of Lindsey Van Rooy.  Both teams played well defensively the rest of the half, sending the game to overtime.

After some back and forth action to start the overtime period, Michigan Tech's Katie Boardman scored the winning goal off the rebound from Amanda Whiting's shot at the 102nd minute mark, to win the match 2-1.

The Huskies outshot the Storm 23-11, but Lake Erie held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game.  Baldacci ended the game with 12 saves. Michigan Tech's Jenna Phelps finished with six saves.

The Storm ends its three-game homestand at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16th, against GLIAC opponent Northern Michigan University at The Britt.
