Second Half Surge Lifts Gannon Past Lake Erie

ERIE, Pa.—The Lake Erie College women's soccer team (0-1) dropped its season opener against traditional, nonconference rival Gannon University (1-0), falling 4-0 at Gannon University Field in Erie, Pa. during the Gannon Labor Day Tournament.

The Golden Knights pressured the Storm's defense throughout the first half.  Junior goalkeeper Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) recorded three saves for the Storm to keep Gannon off the board.  The Storm came close to breaking the scoreless tie when Chrissy Poulos' (North Royalton, Ohio/Independence) direct kick from 50 yards out nearly snuck in under the top of the Knight's goalpost.

Gannon continued to pressure Lake Erie in the second half and eventually broke through.  Sammy Valloud opened the scoring at the 49 minute mark for the Knights, off a corner kick. Kaitlyn Kissell would add two goals less than eight minutes apart and Valloud, who also aded an assist on Kissell's second goal, closed out the second-half barrage with her second goal and the 4-0 final.
