PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College (1-13-1, 0-11 GLIAC) honored its lone senior, forward Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley), but was unable to send her out on top in the home finale as it lost, 2-0, to Northwood University (5-8, 4-8 GLIAC) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
It was an evenly played game, as both teams put eight shots on goal with Northwood holding the 17-11 overall shot advantage. Each team attempted four corner kicks.
Northwood scored in the 13th minute as Tonya Sitney scored on a corner kick from Mallory McCarthy. Lake Erie tried to respond quickly with a barrage of shots including a pair of header which were stopped by team saves. Giesen in particular got two nice chances which were both stopped.
While Lake Erie held a 9-6 advantage in shots for the half, the Timberwolves got their second goal at 40:05 as Amanda Watson weaved through the Storm defense and stuck a strong boot from 15-yards out.
The Storm tired as they tried to mount a comeback through a heavy rain. Northwood held a 11-2 advantage in shots for the second half.
Lake Erie has three more contests left on the season, all GLIAC road matches.
