PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Freshman Meghan Ambrose (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Brush) scored a pair of goals, but visiting Tiffin University scored four times in the final 26 minutes to pull away for a 6-2 victory over the Lake Erie College women's soccer team in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Confernece (GLIAC) action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.
The match was tied 1-1 through the first 59 minutes before the offensive fireworks started. Tiffin's Brittaney Rupert put the Dragons (1-2-2, 1-1 GLIAC) in front with the first of her two goals at 60:02. The lead would be short lived, however, as Ambrose responded with her second goal of the game just 21 seconds later to again tie the score.
Ashley Davis, who scored the contests first goal in the 13th minute of the first half, put Tiffin back on top for good at the 64:02 mark. The Dragons added three more goals – all between 78:51 and 80:54 on the clock – to push the final margin to four.
Lake Erie's (1-3, 0-2 GLIAC) first goal came in the 35th minute when Ambrose connected off a feed from sophomore Paige Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) for her first career goal.
The Storm was outshot 31-8, but sophomore goalkeeper Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) kept Lake Erie in the contest with a season-high 12 saves. Tiffin also held a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
Lake Erie is next in action Wednesday, Sept. 14, when it travels to Ashland University for a GLIAC road contest beginning at 5 p.m.
