The game was all even for one half but the University of Findlay (2-2, 1-0 GLIAC) pulled away in the final 45 minutes in a 2-0 victory over Lake Erie College (1-2, 0-1 GLIAC) at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville, Ohio.
In the first ten minutes, both teams had great scoring chances. Findlay had a great chance with sophomore goalkeeper Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek Ariz./Cactus Shadows) on the ground off a corner kick but Baldacci made an extraordinary kick save from the turf to prevent a goal. On the ensuing run out, sophomore Robin Hames (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby) beat the Findlay goalkeeper but her shot went just wide. The rest of the period lacked strong scoring chances from either team. The Storm was severally hampered when their top scoring threat, junior forward Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) left with an injury.
Findlay finally got on the scoreboard in the 56th minute as Ashley Ruz headed in a perfect corner kick from Erica Ernst. Eight minutes later, the Oilers got on an odd person rush and Ann Eichman took advantage of a deflected pass from Danielle Hart to give the Oilers a comfortable 2-0 advantage. In the 75th minute, Lake Erie had a great chance to cut the deficit in half in the 75th minute but freshman defender Grace Ferut's (Medina, Ohio/Medina) header off junior Valerie Urbanik's (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) corner kick.
Baldacci made six saves for the Storm.
Findlay held an 12-9 edge in shots and corner kicks, 8-7.
The Storm will be in action at home again on Sunday, with a noon match against Tiffin University.
