Lake Erie College (2-8-1, 0-8 GLIAC) stayed unbeaten in non-conference play as it tied Urbana University (2-6-3), 0-0, in a home match at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville, Ohio. The Storm is now 2-0-1 in non-conference action and it was the first time this season Lake Erie played an overtime match.
The first half was fairly evenly matched but Lake Erie held an 8-3 advantage in shots in the half and put four shots on goal to just one for Urbana. Neither team had a great scoring chance with the best being Urbana's lone look on goal off a set piece which resulted in a team saved header.
The second half was much different as the Storm controlled the tempo throughout and the Blue Knights best chances came on counters. Lake Erie had a great look in the 57th minute but sophomore Valerie Urbanik's (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) strong free kick from 30 yards out struck the crossbar.
Lake Erie got two good looks in the first overtime which were denied and Urbana had its only shot off a free kick with two seconds to play in the period, as junior Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) made a sure handed save.
Freshman Megan Baldacci (Cavecreek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) stopped two shots but left in the 85th minute due to injury. Giesen replaced her and made the one save
The Storm won the battle of shots, 20-7, and corner kicks, 7-3.
Lake Erie is in action next on Sunday, Oct. 10 when it travels to face Ashland in a GLIAC matchup beginning at 12:00 p.m. Ashland won the first meeting between these teams this season, 3-0.
