PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's soccer team issued its schedule for the fall and will face some stern challenges in its first season in the 10-team Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Storm, which finished 6-12-2 last season as an independent, will play road games against two teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, including defending national champion Grand Valley State.
"Our schedule is both tough and exciting," said Lake Erie head coach Jim Buchan. "We'll be playing against some of the best teams in the nation and we're looking forward to it with anticipation."
The Storm will be challenged with a long slate of road encounters. Lake Erie opens at Wheeling Jesuit on Sept. 2 then hosts Ashland on Sept. 8 for its GLIAC opener and only home game in the opening month. Lake Erie then has six straight road games, including trips to Findlay (Sept. 10), Tiffin (Sept. 12), Pitt-Johnstown (Sept. 16), Ohio Dominican (Sept. 19), Grand Valley State (Sept. 24) and Ferris State (Sept. 26).
"We're new to the GLIAC and that's how the scheduling came out," Buchan said. "We went through some a lot of road games last year and we'll be prepared."
The Storm returns home for the first three games in October with Northern Michigan (Oct. 1), Michigan Tech (Oct. 3) and Urbana (Oct. 6) visiting Painesville. Lake Erie will then travel to Ashland (Oct. 10), Saginaw Valley (Oct. 15) and Seton Hill (Oct. 17) in an eight-day road stretch.
Lake Erie closes the season with three straight at home against conference foes Ohio Dominican (Oct. 24), Findlay (Oct. 29) and Tiffin (Oct. 31).
The Storm will be aiming to get into the top-six in the conference in order to reach the GLIAC postseason tournament.
