PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Amanda Hanlon's goal midway through the second overtime lifted Malone University to a 2-1 (2OT) victory over the Lake Erie College women's soccer team this afternoon (Oct. 20) in Canton, Ohio.
The loss was the third straight for the Storm, dropping their record to 6-8-2. Malone evened its record at 6-6 with the win.
Lake Erie struck first, getting a goal from senior midfielder Lacey Eisenberg (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) at the 11-minute mark. It was her second goal of the season. The Storm took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Malone evened the score on a free kick by Alyssa Foldesy in the 47th minute. From that point on, freshman Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas) and Malone's Sam Brown turned shots away until Hanlon deflected her shot off a Lake Erie defender and into the net for the winner.
Nelson allowed two goals and made nine saves in just over 59 minutes of action. Sophomore Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) saved all four shots she faced in a scoreless first half in goal.
Brown made three saves for the Pioneers, who outshot the Storm 27-9 in the match.
Lake Erie will look to stop its current slide on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 22, at home against Seton Hill.
