PHILIPPI, W.V. - The Lake Erie women's soccer team surrendered three goals in the final 10 minutes on Sunday, losing 4-1 at Alderson-Broaddus College on Sunday (Oct. 18) afternoon.
The game was the first in a three-game, five-day stretch for the Storm.
The Battlers' Kasie Shoemaker began her hat trick in the 33rd minute as she pounded a Megan Johnson free kick past Lake Erie keeper Chelsea Giesen (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) to give Alderson-Broaddus a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville) tied the game four minutes later on a converted penalty kick. It was Urbanik's fifth goal of the season.
The game remained tied into halftime and throughout much of the second half. Shoemaker, though, scored in the 81st and 85th minutes to put the game out of reach for the Storm, which was out-shot, 19-5, in the match.
Alderson-Broaddus's Brooke Logston scored with three seconds left for the final margin. Giesen stopped six shots in net for the Storm.
Lake Erie takes the pitch on Tuesday (Oct. 20) at Malone at 3 p.m. before hosting Seton Hill on Thursday (Oct. 22) at 4 p.m.
