PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Tiffin Dragons scored four times in the second half on their way to a 5-0 win over the Lake Erie women's soccer team Sunday (Nov. 1) afternoon at Slattery Field.
The Storm (6-12-2) finished the regular season by celebrating the careers of three senior players: sweeper Natalia Bartula (Oakville, Ont./Holy Trinity Catholic), defender/midfielder Emma Hoskins (Fairfield, Ohio/McAuley) and midfielder Lacey Eisenberg (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland).
As a team, the Storm struggled in defending a constant attack by the Dragons (10-5-2), who finished tied for third place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The two schools will become conference foes beginning next season.
Earlier this season, Lake Erie eclipsed last season's win total (two) and finished the year by matching the win total from 2007.
The Storm fell behind early on Sunday when Stephanie Bowman found the back of the net for the Dragons in the 21st minute.
Tiffin piled on four more goals in the second half, including two from Lauren Merriman, to round out the game.
The Storm's lone shot in the game came in the first half off the foot of Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville). Urbanik led this season's team with three assists, while Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) led the Storm with eight goals.
