PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Freshman Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) scored the game-winner in overtime to give the Lake Erie College women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over visiting Lock Haven University this afternoon (Oct. 12) at Slattery Field.
It was the second straight win for the Storm (6-5-2) who moved above .500 for the first time this late in the season since 2006.
The goal was Holland's team-leading seventh of the season and her second game-winner. It came in the 96th minute when she beat a defender one-on-one on the left side and drilled the ball into the right side of the net from about six yards out.
Lock Haven (3-8-1) took an early 1-0 lead when Carly D'Orsaneo scored in the 18th minute off a deflection. Lake Erie tied the match at 1-1 in the 64th minute on a goal by freshman Valerie Urbanik (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville), her fourth.
It stayed that way through the remainder of the second half and the first 5:34 of overtime before Holland's winner due to a pair of strong performances in net.
Lake Erie freshman Jaimie Nelson (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas) made eight saves in goal. Hayley Zinn had three saves for the Eagles- all in the second half.
The Storm, which has won three of its last four games, looks to continue its winning ways on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when it hosts Edinboro Univeristy at 3:30 p.m.
