PAINESVILLE, Ohio (October 18, 2008) - Freshman keeper Chelsea Gieson (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) earned her 100th save this season in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Urbana University in its final home game of the season. Gieson, who ranks second in NCAA Division II in saves per game with an average of 10.63, recorded eight saves in the afternoon.
Lake Erie, playing yet again without any substitutions, fell behind 1-0 in the 21st minute after an unassisted Urbana score, before equalizing in the 39th minute on an unassisted goal by sophomore Katie Daratony (Dexter,Mich./Dexter). The score remained even at the break.
In the second period, an injury midway through sent one of the Storm players to the bench causing the team to play down a player for remainder of the game. The Knights took advantage of the situation, with 13 shots in the second half, however the game-winning goal came on a penalty kick in the 58th minute.
Lake Erie was outshot 21-3 on the day, but never gave up in the close match despite the circumstances of injuries.
Lake Erie (2-8) is on the road the remainder of the season. It travels to Seton Hill University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
