PAINESVILLE, Ohio (September 27, 2008) - Lake Erie College defeated the Chatham University Cougars, 4-0 at Jack Slattery Field on Saturday afternoon. The Storm caged the Cougar offense, holding Chatham to just seven shots for the game, including only two in the first half.
Lake Erie found the net for the first time in the 42nd minute with a goal by sophomore Katelyn Overcasher (East Canton, Ohio/St. Thomas Aquinas). Her first score of the season came off an assist from freshman Natalia Bartula (Oakville, Ontario, Canada/Holy Trinity).
Bartula then tapped in a goal of her own in the 67th minute to give the Storm a 2-0 lead. Freshman Jessica Connell (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) then followed suit, tapping in a pass from Overcasher. Junior Lisa Ruff (Delhi, N.Y./Delaware Academy) finished off the scoring with the fourth and final goal of the afternoon on an unassisted shot in the 71st minute.
Storm freshman keeper Chelsea Gieson (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) totaled three saves on her way to earning her first collegiate shutout.
Lake Erie (2-5) is off this week due to schedule changes. The Storm will resume play at home on Wednesday, Oct. 8 when it hosts Alderson-Broaddus at 1 p.m.
