Storm Set to Host #2 Notre Dame (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- After opening the dual schedule with two close losses last weekend, the Lake Erie College wrestling team will look to bounce back as they host #2 Notre Dame College on Friday (Jan. 20) for Youth/Alumni Night.

"This is always a tough match for us," said Storm head coach Kevin Hoogenboom. "Notre Dame is very good top to bottom and it's a great test for our program. We always look forward to this dual. It should be a great crowd and environment to compete in."

Storm Report: The Storm are 0-2 in duels, after they dropped two close duals last weekend. Lake Erie fell to #8 Pittsburgh-Johnstown 22-21 on Friday. In the Storm's first home dual, the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals defeated the Storm 21-19. Both duels came down to the final match. 149-pounder Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio / Riverside), 165-pounder Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston), 184-pounder Tyler Hughes  (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) all went undefeated for the weekend.

Team Rankings: Lake Erie enters the dual schedule as the 15th ranked team in the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll. The Storm jumped six spots in the latest version of the rankings released January 4th. The Storm are also ranked 3rd in the Super Region 2 Rankings.

Individual Rankings: The Storm has nine wrestlers ranked in the Super Region 2 Rankings and four wrestlers ranked in the National rankings. Boggs is ranked 2nd in the region and sixth in the national rankings. Vandermeer is first in the region and ninth overall in the country. Hughes is second in the region and ranked eighth in the national polls. 197-pounder Evan Rosborough (Concord Township, Ohio / Riverside) is slotted fourth in the region and 12th in the latest national ranks.

Series History: The Storm fell to Notre Dame College last season on the road by a final score of 32-8. The year before, Lake Erie upset the Falcons, then #1, at home.

Storm Forecast: The Storm will play host to Kutztown University and Ashland University in a doubleheader on January 28th
