BAY CITY, Mich.-- Five members of the Lake Erie College wrestling team earned First-Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honors and Head Coach Kevin Hoogenboom was named Coach of the Year, announced by the conference Monday (Feb. 23).
125-pounder Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind./Fairfield), 141-pounder Nick Boggs (Concord Twp., Ohio/Riverside), 165-pounder Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), 184-pounder Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) and 197-pounder Evan Rosborough (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) all went undefeated in GLIAC duals this season.
The Storm finished with a 3-0 record in the GLIAC, capturing the Conference Championship. In January, the Storm defeated Ashland University 27-10 and Tiffin University 31-6. On Feb. 13, the Storm defeated the University of Findlay 29-16 to secure the title.
To earn All-GLIAC honors, wrestlers had to compete in a minimum of two GLIAC duals.
Glogouski earned a major decision over Giuseppe Penzone of Tiffin and a pin fall over Schuyler Phillips of Findlay. Boggs earned decisions against Ty Davis of Ashland, Michael Screptock of Tiffin and Ryan Skonieczny of Findlay. Vandermeer earned a decision victory over Chayse Boyd of Tiffin. Green earned decisions over Kurt Schaefer of Ashland and Christopher Baker of Tiffin as well as a tech fall over Alec Bissell of Findlay. Rosborough scored pin falls against Brandon O'Neill of Ashland, Jacob Carrisales of Tiffin and Gerald Beck of Findlay.
In addition to the five First-Team All-GLIAC Honors, Head Coach Kevin Hoogenboom was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year. Coach Hoogenboom helped the Storm reach the top-10 in the national polls and the top spot in the Region-II poll.
The Storm returns to action Feb. 27-28 at the Super Region-II Championships in North Carolina.
