Storm Faces Tough Competition at Newberry Duals This Weekend

PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College wrestling team returns to the mat following a week off for final exams Saturday, Dec. 8, at the sixth annual Newberry Duals hosted by Newberry College.

At Newberry, the Storm (3-1, 0-1 GLIAC) will face Lindenwood University, Limstone College, 20th-ranked University of North Carolina-Pembroke and the fifth-ranked host Wolves. In addition to the two ranked teams, Limestone was listed among other schools receiving votes in the latest Coaches Poll.

LAST TIME OUT: Lake Erie rallied for a 23-13 win over Seton Hill University on Saturday night, Dec. 1, at home.  The Storm trailed 13-11 with three matches remaining before getting decision victories from Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) and Mikey Samijlenko (Parma, Ohio/Normandy) at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, and a pin from Almonte Patrick (Maple Heights, Ohio/Maple Heights) to close it out at heavyweight.

IN THE RANKS: According to the national rankings released Dec. 4, sophomore Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) is third in the 165-pound weight class.  Last season Vandermeer earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
