Wrestling Hosts #13 West Liberty, Youth Night in Home Opener Wednesday; Live Webcast on

PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College wrestling team hosts nationally-ranked West Liberty University Wednesday night, Dec. 14, in the 2011-12 home opener at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center.   It is also Youth Night as the Storm will welcome youth wrestlers from over 18 area programs to the dual meet.  

The Hilltoppers (3-0), ranked 13th in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II Poll, represents the fourth ranked team the Storm (4-4) will face in the past five days.  On Saturday, Dec. 10, Lake Erie faced three ranked foes in its four matches, including the top-ranked team in the nation, at the Newberry College Duals.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE STORM: Lake Erie posted a 2-2 record as a team at the Newberry Duals.  The Storm lost to host and No. 1-ranked Newberry (47-0) and No. 18 University of North Carolina-Pembroke (25-15) before handling No. 17 Limestone College (29-12) and Anderson Univeristy (35-9). Individually, sophomore Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) went 3-1 at 174 pounds, winning his final three matches to improve to 9-3 on the year.  Six others posted two wins on the day, including junior Justin Toth (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside/Mt. Union) and freshman Austin Gillihan (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) who were 2-0 and 2-1, respectively.

THE OPPOSITION POSITION: After not receiving a single vote in the preseason coaches poll, West Liberty vaulted into the Top 25 a week ago at No. 13 after a 3-0 start to their dual season.  Included in the Hilltoppers' hot start are a pair of road victories at perenial D-II powers the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Shippensburg University.  Individually unbeaten J.D. Ramsey (8-0) is ranked sixth nationally at heavyweight and Nick Wykoff (7-2) is fifth at 141 pounds.
