Toth and Bucher Wins Not Enough for Storm Wrestlers

Lake Erie College fell to No.16-ranked Gannon University, 38-6, at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center in Painesville, Ohio.

Lake Erie closes its dual season with a 5-9-1 record while Gannon improves to 8-2-1 on the season.

The action started off strong for the Storm even before the match started as freshman Tyler Tesny (Munroe Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) picked up a 6-2 decision victory in a 174-lb exhibition over Keith Stoerr, backup to the second-ranked wrestler in Div. II in the country.

The momentum continued when the match started at 125-lbs when freshman Justin Toth (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) picked up his seventh win in his past eight dual matches, 15-12.  Toth led the entire way in a fast-paced, action-packed match which Toth never trailed.

The tides turned after three straight forfeits for Lake Erie.  At 157-lbs, freshman Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) was tied in the final minute of the match, before falling 4-2.

After a technical fall at 165-lbs, freshman Josh Linden (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) put a scare into the second-ranked wrestler nationally at 174-lbs.  Linden had several near pins and held a 4-3 advantage going into the final period before ultimately falling 7-4.

At 197-lbs, freshman Phillip Bucher (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville Area) dropped down a weight class and it paid off in a 4-0 decision victory, his second win on of the season.

Lake Erie will be in action next on February 25-26 when it travels to Findlay, Ohio for the NCAA Div. II Midwest Regional.
