(ERIE, Pa.) – Lake Erie got back to its winning ways with a 14-8 victory over Gannon on Tuesday evening. The Storm (3-3) blitzed the Golden Knights (2-3) early with an 8-3 lead at halftime and withstood every comeback attempt by the hosts in the second half.
It was a complete team win as Coach Ferrandiz's crew contributed heavily on both ends of the field. Goalkeeper Harmony Moore made save after save and totaled 13 on the day. Overall she faced 26 shots and had a save percentage of .619. Defensively she picked up three ground balls, second only to Ireland Kennedy and equal to Anna Spin.
Speaking of Spin, she charged the offense once again with seven goals and an assist for eight points. She now has 24 on the season with 21 in her last four games.
Also getting the job done on offense was Meagan Maxwell and Riley Heffron. Maxwell tallied three goals and two assists while Heffron added two and two. Heffron also showed a quick draw off the start with five draw controls. Chloe Nottingham led that category with seven.
Heffron was involved in the first three goals for Lake Erie to give the Storm the lead after Gannon's game-opening goal. Spin and Maxwell assisted the first two while Maxwell scored the third on Heffron's helper. After Gannon added another to make it 3-2, the Storm bombarded the Knights with the next five scores.
The Green and White will return to the field a week from today to take on Lindenwood (Mo.) in a non-conference clash. Opening draw with the Lions is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Britt.
